Frequently Asked Questions

An orthodontist is a dentist who has specialized only in orthodontic treatment and in addition to dental school, has completed at least two years of a full time Orthodontic Residency program that is accredited by the American Dental Association. An orthodontist is trained to perform orthodontic treatment to a very high standard and understands the growth and development of the jaws and face of children, in addition to the complexities of adult treatment (multiple restored teeth, missing teeth, periodontal concerns, etc).

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic screening as early as age 7. By this age, several permanent teeth in most children have erupted, allowing us to effectively evaluate your orthodontic condition and determine if any severe issues exist that necessitate early (Phase I) treatment. Once all of your permanent teeth have erupted, however, any time is a good time to schedule a complimentary smile evaluation!

It is impossible to give an exact cost for treatment until we have examined you. We will cover the exact cost and financial options during the initial examination. We have many financing options available to accommodate your needs, and we will review these with you. We will also review your insurance policy and help to maximize your benefit and file your claims.

Appointments are scheduled according to each patient’s needs. Most patients in braces will be seen every 6 to 8 weeks. If there are specific situations that require more frequent monitoring, we will schedule appointments accordingly.

A surprising percentage of our patients are adults. In fact, 25 percent of all orthodontic patients are adults and that number increases every year, particularly with the esthetic treatment options now available. Health, happiness and self-esteem are vitally important to adults. No patient is “too old” to wear braces!
