Metal & Clear Braces

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are what comes to mind for most people when they think of orthodontic treatment. These traditional braces are available in both metal and clear options.

Made of a high-grade stainless steel, today’s metal braces are sleeker, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. Patients can also customize their braces with different colors at each appointment. See what you would look like with braces here.

Traditional Braces Pros:

  • Because they are smaller and more low-profile, they are easy for the lips and cheeks to get used to.
  • They are the best option for patients beginning early Phase 1 treatment.
  • Color changes can make appointments more fun, and patients can personalize their braces to match holidays, or sport their favorite colors, etc.

Traditional Braces Cons:

  • While they are smaller than ever before, they are still more noticeable so wouldn’t be the ideal option for a patient looking for maximum aesthetics.

Clear Braces

Because clear braces are made of ceramic, they are less visible on your teeth than metal braces.

Clear Braces Pros:

  • Ceramic braces provide the reliability of traditional metal braces, but are a great option for patients interested in a more aesthetically pleasing way to straighten their teeth.
  • Patients also have the ability to change their colors, making appointments more fun.

Clear Braces Cons:

  • They are less prominent, however, the elastic ties that hold the wires in place can stain. While these ties are changed every 6 weeks, this means patients must pay close attention to oral hygiene and certain foods & drinks that may cause staining during treatment. (See also Damon Clear braces)
